Aaron Rodgers Shirks Responsibility For Minicamp Absence, Explains Why It Actually Wasn’t A Big Deal

Aaron Rodgers believes the hoopla caused by his missing of New York Jets minicamp is really a semantics issue and not actually his fault.

Appearing on a recent episode of the Pardon My Take podcast, Aaron Rodgers explained that the response to his bailing on mandatory minicamp wasn’t his fault, but rather, those reporting on it.

“They can arbitrarily put a tag on whatever week of OTAs they want and say, ‘This is the minicamp week,’ which makes it somehow more mandatory than the other weeks,” Rodgers said on the podcast.

“But it was an OTA schedule. That’s how words can be a little deceiving from time to time. They can make a story out of the fact that I missed minicamp, but it was really two OTA days, but [I] came to the first 10.”

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Rodgers is shirking responsibility, as the 40-year-old New York Jets quarterback has developed a reputation for being one of the most self-centered athletes in American sports in recent years.

Other than linebacker Haason Reddick — whom the Jets traded for earlier in the offseason and is holding out of a new contract — Rodgers was the only member of the Jets not to be in attendance at minicamp.

Rodgers and the Jets will begin their 2024 season with a road matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. The future Hall of Fame signal-caller will certainly be hoping for a more successful season-opener this year, as he lasted just four plays before tearing his Achilles in 2023.

Just prior to the start of training camps across the NFL, the Jets have the 11th best betting odds to win this season’s Super Bowl, trailing the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans.
