Hopes were so high for the New York Jets coming into the season. Aaron Rodgers was healthy, the roster was upgraded, and they looked, on paper, to be sleeper Super Bowl contenders.
But, for seemingly the third week in a row, things for the New York Jets have hit rock-bottom. An embarrassing 25-22 loss to the lowly New England Patriots has essentially ended their season before we’ve reached the halfway point.
Not only did Aaron Rodgers and the Jets lose to the Patriots, but they did so after New England quarterback Jacoby Brissett replaced Drake Maye, who left with an injury. The Patriots offense was awful with Brissett in earlier in the season, but the Jets defense struggled to stop New England.
In fact, they gave up a 70-yard touchdown drive to lose the game to Jacoby Brissett and company after the Jets scored a go-ahead touchdown on a Braelon Allen run with just under three minutes to play.
But, the New York Jets are a bad football team, and what do bad football teams do?
Bad teams. Find ways. To lose games.

That’s exactly what this team is. They fired Robert Saleh midseason, and have lost three games in a row since, including two as favorites. Aaron Rodgers isn’t performing at a level that would make him a problem, but he isn’t the solution, either. Given the distractions he brings and the way it appears he’s tried to influence the team’s personnel decisions, it seems he’s a net negative on the whole.
Once again, this is a Jets franchise that is going nowhere fast, except now instead of having a bunch of young talent it’s an aging, expensive roster that doesn’t fit together at all. It seems likely there will be widespread regime change in the offseason, but a lot of this falls on owner Woody Johnson. All signs point to him being a really terrible owner, and it’s tough to win with an awful owner.
At 2-6, the playoffs seems to be a longshot at this point. And, once again, the Jets are the joke of the league.
