While certainly not the best free agent on the market this offseason, legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers is certainly the most well-known of any player that was looking for a new deal this offseason. The polarizing player could theoretically still help a team in his age-41 season.
Rodgers seemingly wanted to play for the Minnesota Vikings following his disappointing two-year stint with the Jets. But, they’re not interested, and the fact that Russell Wilson has now signed with the Giants leaves only one team truly going after Rodgers’ services.
Statistically, Rodgers wasn’t bad last year with the Jets. He completed 63% of his passes for just under 4,000 yards and 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. Looking at the history of Jets quarterbacks, that’s a good season! But, the Jets struggled, and a big chunk of those numbers were in garbage time.
The Jets elected not to bring Rodgers back, and the number of suitors for the future Hall of Fame selection was not large. Two teams, the Giants and Steelers, were rumored to be interested when NFL free agency began earlier this month. Rodgers wanted the Vikings, but they declined, electing to go with JJ McCarthy as their starter next season.
In classic Aaron Rodgers fashion, he’s taken his time on making a decision, likely holding up Russell Wilson, who spent last year with the Steelers, from making a choice of his own. But, on Tuesday, Wilson signed with the Giants.

That means that there is really only two options left for Rodgers, signing with the Steelers or retiring. That’s certainly not the type of offseason he was envisioning, that’s for sure.
