Aaron Rodgers’ new Netflix documentary Enigma offers tons of insight intro the controversial quarterback’s psyche, tackling subjects such as his drug use, his relationship with his family, his past romantic flings, his Achilles injury, and the Packers drafting Jordan Love to be his successor, which ultimately came to fruition.

While Aaron Rodgers was famously bitter about Green Bay drafting his successor while he felt he had plenty of the tank, he reveals what his specific reaction was to learning that the Packers drafted Love out of UCLA in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

According to the 41-year-old four-time NFL MVP, his initial reaction after hearing the news from his agent was to say “No f—— way,” before then pouring himself some tequila.

“I looked down at my phone and my agent just texted me: ‘Quarterback.’ And I was like, ‘No f—— way,'” Rodgers says in the three-part Netflix documentary series that released on Tuesday, December 17. “Then the pick happens, and I immediately got off the couch and was super non-reactive. And I just went to pour myself some tequila and went back to the couch and knew there was going to be some interesting conversations.”

Rodgers famously responded to the Packers drafting Jordan Love by winning consecutive MVP awards during the 2020 and 2021 seasons. During those two seasons, Rodgers posted a record of 26-6 while completing 69.8% of his passes for 8,414 yards, 85 touchdowns and 9 interceptions, with an average passer rating of 116.7.

Winning the NFC North in both of those season, Rodgers and the Packers would lose to Tom Brady and the Bucs at home in the 2020 NFC Championship and to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the 2021 NFC playoffs.

Since taking over for Rodgers in 2023, Love has blossomed into yet another franchise quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, as he led the team to the NFC Championship last season.

As the Packers head into Week 16 with a 10-4 record, Love has completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,953 yards, 23 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Meanwhile, Rodgers and the Jets currently sit at 4-10, although Rodgers has looked a bit like more of his old self in recent weeks, albeit too little, too late.
