If you’ve been paying close attention to the New York Jets this season, it’s been obvious that trouble was brewing between head coach Robert Saleh and quarterback Aaron Rodgers ever since the former outed the latter for skipping out on mandatory minicamp to go to Egypt.

At the time of the rift, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that Rodgers “went to Saleh” to confront him over his decision to disclose that Rodgers’ absence from minicamp was “unexcused.”

“Rodgers went to Saleh after that to question why he would call it unexcused. According to [Dianna] Russini [of The Athletic], the head coach and his quarterback ironed things out and ‘everyone’s great now,'” Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported over the summer.

The notion that “everyone’s great now” obviously wasn’t quite true, as Rodgers and Saleh showed signs of disconnect before his firing, such as Rodgers’ allegedly playful shove of Saleh against the Patriots, or their public spat through the media about changing the pre-snap cadence.

WFAN also reportedly claimed that Rodgers and Saleh had a heated exchange after a press conference, with Rodgers not even looking at his head coach, although those reports are unconfirmed.

With the Jets becoming the first team to fire their head coach during the 2024 season, defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will take over as interim head coach of the team, who could actually take over first place in the AFC East if they beat the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football next week.
