Following a six-hour-long meeting between the pair last week, NFL insiders are now expecting Aaron Rodgers to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rodgers, 41 years old, was released by the New York Jets earlier in the offseason.
After reportedly fielding interest from teams such as the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, Las Vegas Raiders, and New York Giants, all of those teams have now made moves at the quarterback position, with the latest coming in the Big Apple as the G-Men signed Jameis Winston to a two-year contract.
Similarly, the Vikings also put the word out through the media that they were no longer interested in Rodgers and would instead be building around second-year QB J.J. McCarthy.
With the game of offseason quarterback musical chairs seemingly coming to an end, Aaron Rodgers needs to find his place to sit, and according to ProFootballTalk, it’s a “safe bet” he’ll sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who made the AFC playoffs last season as a Wild Card team. As for when that could happen, PFT doesn’t say — previous reports, however, indicated that Rodgers could wait until the draft in late April to sign.
“As one source in the general vicinity of those who would be in position to know said Sunday, it’s a “safe bet” that quarterback Aaron Rodgers eventually will sign with the Steelers,” reported Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.
The controversial 41-year-old quarterback was given the option to return to the New York Jets by recently-hired Jets head coach Aaron Glenn but was reportedly told he’d have to show up at preseason workouts like the rest of his teammates and stop making weekly appearances on The Pat McAfee Show to pull a Frank Costanza-on-Festivus and air his grievances.
During the 2024 season with the Jets — his first and only as the team’s starting signal-caller after tearing his Achilles just four snaps into the 2023 campaign — Rodgers completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
