Yet Another Team Jumps Into The Aaron Rodgers Sweepstakes On The Eve Of Free Agency

Had Aaron Rodgers hit free agency a decade ago, it would’ve been as big as any free agency in the history of American sports. Even now, when he’s not near the player he was in his prime, Rodgers is still generating a ton of buzz as he’s set to hit free agency on Monday.

He’s been linked to the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Minnesota Vikings as landing spots after he was released by the New York Jets following a disappointing season for both Rodgers and the Jets. Now, there’s a new team in the mix, and it’s
the Seattle Seahawks.

The four-time NFL MVP returned to the field after tearing his Achilles four snaps into the 2024 season. His raw stats of 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns to go with 11 interceptions. But, the actual play was worse than the stats, and the Jets were completely dysfunctional as a unit. Some of that was on Aaron Rodgers, and some of it wasn’t on him. But, the Jets-Aaron Rodgers marriage certainly didn’t work out.

They released him in February, and even though his year wasn’t great, there are plenty of teams that need a quarterback. I mentioned three above, and another one that now needs a quarterback is the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks traded Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders last week in a bit of a surprising move. They were 10-7 last year, so you know they’re good enough to be a playoff team this upcoming season if they can get the right quarterback and improve a poor offensive line. Could that quarterback be Aaron Rodgers? According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, it very well may be.

I can’t even picture Aaron Rodgers in a Seahawks jersey. But, if it happens, they would certainly be an intruiging pick to win the NFC West if you assume much of the dysfunction was because of the Jets and not because of Rodgers.
