We’re likely still a few years away from the release of Happy Gilmore 2, and while it sounds like Adam Sandler still has plenty of work to do when it comes to bringing the sequel to fruition, he’s got some big ideas in mind—including a role reserved for the one and only Tiger Woods.

It’s been a couple of months since Christopher McDonald (the actor best known for playing Shooter McGavin) revealed Adam Sandler was working on a sequel to what is arguably the comedian’s magnum opus.

It seems like he was supposed to keep that information under wraps based on how The Sandman reacted to that development, but he nonetheless confirmed he was working on a script before Netflix announced the project was officially in the works last week.

As things currently stand, there isn’t a ton of information concerning what we can expect from a sequel to Happy Gilmore, which will almost certainly come out more than 30 years after the original hit theaters toward the start of 1996.

It sounds like Dan Patrick has already landed a role based on his conversations with Sandler, but during the one that took place on the broadcaster’s eponymous show on Monday, the actor hinted he has a part in mind for a slightly more notable name.

Sandler told Patrick he’s planning on linking up with longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy to firm up the script for Happy Gilmore 2 once he wraps up the Noah Baumbach movie he’s currently filming alongside George Clooney and Laura Dern in Europe

He added it will likely revolve around the golfer “being a little older now and still trying to compete with the youngsters” and said Herlihy may have gotten some inspiration from John Daly (who loosely inspired the character of Happy Gilmore) after chatting with him at the PGA Championship in Louisville last week.

Patrick also floated the possibility of Tiger Woods making an appearance as Sandler battled a spotty WiFi connection while saying, “I would love it. We’ll see. I’m gonna write all my dreams and then you never know what’s gonna happen.”

Lee Trevino was the only pro golfer of note to appear in Happy Gilmore (which obviously featured some other notable cameos thanks to Bob Barker and Verne Lundquist), so while we’ll have to wait and see if Tiger ends up making an appearance, it would be quite the upgrade.
