Basketball fans have spent more than a decade keeping a careful eye on Adrian Wojnarowski’s Twitter account in anticipation of the latest in a long line of the “Woj Bombs” the insider is known for dropping, but it appears that era has come to a pretty shocking end based on the one he treated the world to on Wednesday.

You’d be hard-pressed to find many members of the NBA media who are more plugged into the league than Adrian Wojnarowski, the veteran reporter best known for tracking down the many scoops that made him a must-follow for any fan trying to keep tabs on trades and transactions.

Shams Chariana eventually emerged to give Woj a run for his money, but the latter set the bar for NBA insiders by being the first person to announce the trade that brought James Harden to the Rockets, another that made Paul George a member of the Clippers, and—perhaps most notably—the league’s decision to suspend the season due to the pandemic.

Wojnarowski is a native of Bristol, Connecticut who started his career as a reporter with the Hartford Courant but really emerged as a national figure when he joined Yahoo Sports in 2007. In 2017, things came full circle when he headed back to the town where he grew up after being hired by ESPN to serve as one of their most authoritative NBA voices.

However, things took a fairly unexpected turn on Wednesday when Wojnarowski announced his decision to leave The Worldwide Leader and the news industry as a whole, saying the demands that accompany the life of a prolific insider are “an investment I’m no longer driven to make.”

While the Woj Bomb Era may have come to an end, the 55-year-old isn’t retiring but rather pivoting to a gig at his alma mater, as he told his colleagues he’s accepted a job as the GM of the men’s basketball team at St. Bonaventure to assist Bonnies coach Mark Schmidt with recruiting and NIL.

That popping sound you hear is Shams opening as many bottles of champagne as he can get his hands on.
