Each year, the Hershey Bears of the AHL hold a “Mites on Ice” showcase during the intermission of one of the team’s home games.

The showcase is usually fun for all. It allows local youth hockey players to step onto a professional rink and briefly play in front of a massive crowd. It’s typically full of shenanigans, but nothing too uncommon.

However, on Saturday night, things turned violent.

Youth Hockey Brawl At AHL Game Leads To Viral Video

Allie Berube of local news station ABC 27 posted a video of the game devolving into a wild brawl that saw players everywhere throwing punches and tossing one another to the ground.

Ultimately, somewhere between 8-10 players got involved in the brawl, including the one team’s goalie, who skated the length of the ice to throw an opposing player to the ground.

The Central Penn Panthers Youth Ice Hockey Club released a statement Sunday addressing the incident.

“We have been made aware of an incident that occurred last night during the ‘Mites on Ice’ event between periods of the Hershey Bears game. The safety, well-being, and positive experience of all participants—especially our young players—are of the utmost importance,” the statement read. “We are currently conducting an internal review to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. This review will include gathering information from all relevant parties and assessing the situation thoroughly and responsibly.

“At this time, we believe it is important to allow this process to take place before drawing conclusions. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our families, partners, and community as we work through this matter.”

Ultimately, it didn’t appear that any of the participants were seriously injured. And for the most part, fans seemed to enjoy the spectacle. But it’s probably not the precedent to set moving forward.
