The NFL Pro Bowl is not what it once was. Although the format is the same and football is football, there isn’t all that much effort put forth in the modern era.
Sunday’s game took a lot of heat for the lack of tackling, and it might be better off played as a flag football game. There was a lot of offense and very little defense.
Thus, nobody had it better than the punters.
Las Vegas Raiders punter A.J. Cole III and Dallas Cowboys punter Bryan Anger did not attempt a single kick during the entire 60-minute Pro Bowl. Not one.
Cole and Anger got a most-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas (maybe not as fun for the home town guy), got to party in Sin City, and enjoy a week of vacation just like everyone else who was invited. But neither of them had to actually do what they were selected to do. What a gig!
As a result, Cole ended up with the best stat line of the 2021/22 NFL Pro Bowl. He did not punt, he held three extra points, and ate he a couple of hot dogs.
During the fourth quarter Cole spoke about his week. Rocking his signature flow and a glorious mustache, he said that head coach Mike Vrabel told him earlier in the week that his team did not plan to punt at all. That was totally okay with him.
However, he had to let everybody know that he was really out on the field and not just there to pass out water and high fives. To do so, he made sure to dig his knees into the turf and get some grass stains on his white pants.

Cole didn’t get credit for his performance and Mac Jones was named the Pro Bowl MVP, but without Cole, there was no Pro Bowl.
