It seems like the amount of flags being thrown by NFL referees in the early part of the season. It’s really interrupting the flow of the game, though most of the calls are legitimate penalties that are hard to ignore.
But, things seemed to reach a boiling point during the Thursday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants.
What should’ve been an intense first half of a big divisional matchup between 1-2 teams desperately needing a win turned into a flag fest.
There were twelve accepted penalties in the first half. Nine were called on the Dallas Cowboys for 70 yards, which obviously hurt them pretty significantly.
While official stats will show twelve accepted penalties, it seeemed like there were so many more than that. Seemingly every play had a flag thrown, and the flow of the game was non-existent.
By the end of the half, veteran legendary announcer Al Michaels had had enough.
"It looks like June 14th here, otherwise known as Flag Day, as you know." – Al Michaels, as there are flags left and right throughout Thursday Night Football. 🏈🎙️🦓 #NFL #TNF pic.twitter.com/Fn1YuiYmgp
