The Florida Panthers secured their first Stanley Cup in franchise history with a win over the Oilers, and some of Aleksander Barkov’s neighbors got an unexpected wake-up call courtesy of the captain who was understandably excited to show off hockey’s ultimate prize.

Close to eight million people tuned into Game 7 of the Stanely Cup Final on Monday night (making it the highest-rated NHL game in the past five years) to see if the Florida Panthers would be able to stop the Edmonton Oilers from crawling out of a 3-0 hole and pulling off one of the most impressive comebacks in the history of hockey.

An Oilers team that left it all on the ice ultimately came up short in its quest to secure the greatest trophy in sports, as the Panthers earned the right to hoist the Stanley Cup with the 2-1 victory in front of a home crowd that finally got to celebrate a championship after waiting 30 years for the big moment.

Stanley Cup tradition dictates the captain of the winning team gets to be the first person to hoist the trophy, and Aleksander Barkov did exactly that before passing it off to Sergei Bobrovsky to mark the official start of a celebration that will continue throughout the summer.

On Tuesday, the Panthers brought the Stanley Cup to Fort Lauderdale (where they gave fans the chance to drink beer out of it before taking the trophy for a quick dip in the Atlantic Ocean), but prior to those festivities, Barkov went out of his way to let his neighbors get in on the celebration.

There aren’t many scenarios where I’d be thrilled about being woken up at 4 A.M. by an unexpected knock on the door, but there’s definitely a major exception to that general rule in the form of a video sports radio host Paul Castronovo shared after a couple of people in his former neighborhood found themselves faced with that situation after Barkov rolled up to their house with the Stanley Cup in tow.

Must be nice.
