Alex Rodriguez Drains Half-Court Shot At College Basketball Game To Win $10K For Random Student

Alex Rodriguez Bucknell Half-Court Shot $10,000
Bucknell University

Alex Rodriguez did not attend Bucknell University. However, he casually drained a half-court shot at a Bison college basketball game on Sunday and won $10,000 for a random student in the crowd.

It went in on his first attempt!

Rodriguez, 49, never went to college. The former high school baseball star signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Miami and was recruited to play quarterback for the Hurricanes but he ultimately turned down the scholarship when he was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1993 MLB Draft.

So why was he at Bucknell? Great question. His ties to the university are well-documented. Rodriguez joined friend and business partner Marc Lore on the ownership group of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Lore graduated from the university in 1993.

Lore, Rodriguez and Bucknell trustee Jordy Leiser spoke at a forum event on Sunday morning.

They swung by the gym after wrapping up at Holmes Hall to watch the Bison take down the Army Black Knights in college basketball.

Lore and Leiser got some shots up prior to tipoff. Rodriguez also got to pull up from deep during the game! Kind of. He was invited to participate in an in-game promotion for $10,000.

Alex Rodriguez obviously doesn’t need the money so it was on behalf of a random student selected from the crowd. If he made a half-court shot, the student won the money. The 14-time MLB All-Star stepped up to the line and banked it in. It was epic!

Here is how it looked on the CBS Sports broadcast:

Here’s another look from the student section:

Here’s a recap of the entire afternoon from the university:

That student won $10,000 because Alex Rodriguez drained a half-court shot in his honor. It doesn’t get much cooler than that right there. I couldn’t figure out exactly how the money is to be distributed, but I would imagine that it is scholarship money from the university. Pretty sweet!
