DeWanna Bonner stood up for her fiancée, Alyssa Thomas, after a dirty play involving Angel Reese led to an ejection. The two-time WNBA champion and six-time All-Star was also involved in a dust-up with the highly-scrutinized rookie during the game.

Her defense of Thomas drew a lot of criticism!

Bonner shared the following post to X on Sunday morning. It was in direct response to an ugly incident in which Thomas slapped Reese in the throat, threw her to the ground, and walked away as if it was no big deal.

WNBA fans were quick to point out what they saw with their own two eyes less than 24 hours prior.

“You need to learn to tell your girl when she’s wrong. This is not cool at all,” said @gwinnin23.

“Yes she is! She could have concussed Angel or damaged her back… it was intentional and she should be suspended for the attack…” said @norvrob.

“😂😂😂😂 this PR is pathetic tell her to apologize and move else y’all haven’t seen anything yet .. I didn’t see her being nice to Angel,” said @stilldebs.

“DB, you’ve been my fave since 2014, but AT has to apologize. The series of incidents is looking like she’s that person. As a Terp, I love AT too. I don’t want people hating her,” said @Peaceful_Rule.

“Definitely looked like that person,” said @Krystal47879378.

“Idkkkkk she’s kinda looked like ‘that person’ on multiple occasions now lol,” said @rhe_gos.

“Maybe not with you, but on the court: She is. And has been,” said @chellebat.

Thomas, a 10-year veteran, has been at the center of controversy on multiple occasions in the past. The most infamous occurrence took place in 2022 when she clobbered Candace Parker in the playoffs.

For Bonner to vehemently defend Thomas in such a manner even though she has yet to issue any form of public apology for what happened did not go over particularly well. However, the former was speaking more to the accusations of domestic violence that were cast upon her relationship with the latter.

That is entirely fair. No such claims should be made without legitimate basis.

Interestingly enough, Bonner also had a heated incident with Reese during the game on Saturday. Chicago’s rookie forward caught the veteran in the face with an elbow. She fell to the floor.

Upon further review, the foul was not upgraded. It remained as a common foul, not a technical.

Bonner going down in the way that she did after fairly insignificant and accidental contact raises eyebrows after how her fiancée acted toward Reese just one quarter prior. Perhaps there was an ulterior motive with the overblown reaction.

Either way, Connecticut got the last laugh with the win. DeWanna Bonner is right that some of the things being said about Alyssa Thomas after the ugly moment with Angel Reese are extremely inappropriate.

However, the entire story behind the public defense seems to be much deeper than it appears!
