Angel Reese Forced Former Sky Teammate Marina Mabrey To Break Her Silence About Their Toxic Beef

Marina Mabrey and Angel Reese do not hate each other. The latter forced the former to break her silence about the alleged beef between them that led the Chicago Sky to make a franchise-changing trade during the 2024 WNBA season.

She made it abundantly clear that locker room drama was not the reason for her departure.

Mabrey requested a trade in the middle of July right before the WNBA All-Star break. Chicago obliged to the ask and shipped her off to Connecticut during in exchange for Rachel Banham, Moriah Jefferson and a first-round pick in 2025. The move raised eyebrows across the league for two reasons.

First and foremost, Mabrey offered a cryptic statement about the Sky on her way out of Illinois.

I like to keep our stuff in house […] What happens there stays there, but I saw [the trade] as an opportunity for me to get a chance to play with veterans, people who have won a championship.

There was also some chatter about underlying issues inside the locker room. Former head coach Teresa Weatherspoon supposedly lost the team because of “a culture that catered to the needs of a few players.” Mabrey allegedly wanted out of Chicago because of the toxicity.

That may or may not be true. She has not indicated one way or the other.

However, even if Marina Mabrey actually wanted to leave the Sky because of the toxicity, her trade request did not stem from a beef with Angel Reese.

Both players were reunited over the weekend in preparation for the upcoming Unrivaled season. Reese forced Mabrey to address the rumors while on camera. They even made heart hands together.
