Angel Reese was one of the many notable names who made the leap to the WNBA this season, and the former LSU basketball star has decided to branch out into another sport by becoming the part-owner of a women’s soccer team.

Caitlin Clark was obviously the crown jewel of the 2024 WNBA Draft Class, but she was far from the only notable name who decided to turn pro after wrapping up her time in college. The Top 10 featured a stacked lineup of rising stars, including Angel Reese, who was selected by the Chicago Sky with the seventh overall pick.

The “Bayou Barbie” will only be earning around $73,500 during her rookie season, but she’ll probably be making significantly more after signing endorsement deals with Reebok and Beats By Dre with more undoubtedly in the pipeline (when you consider she bought a Mercedes AMG G-Class SUV worth $183K in the wake of the draft, she seems to be doing pretty well for herself).

I can’t say I’m intimately familiar with the forward’s investment portfolio, but we now know she has opted to use some of her earnings to become the part-owner of a professional sports team in the form of DC Power FC, which is one of the eight women’s soccer teams that will comprise the SL Super League when it kicks off its inaugural season in August.

You may be wondering why Reese decided to invest in a franchise based in Washington D.C. when you consider she played in Louisiana before taking her talents to Chicago, but it’s a pretty natural partnership when you consider she’s a Maryland native who grew up outside of Baltimore.

Reese is just the latest pro athlete to buy a stake in a soccer team, as she joins J.J. Watt (Burnley FC), Patrick Mahomes (the NSWL’s Kansas City Current), and Magic Johnson, Mia Hamm, and Nomar Garciaparra (Los Angeles FC) as the newest member of that growing club.
