Angel Reese was extremely disappointed to learn that the Chicago Sky fired head coach Teresa Weatherspoon after her rookie season. However, the five-time WNBA All-Star could soon return to the same role with a completely different team in a completely different league.
Weatherspoon might end up coaching Reese for the second time within the same calendar year.
Unrivaled Basketball is a new professional 3-on-3 women’s league that is set to begin competition in 2024. Founded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, it will allow WNBA players to make money during the offseason without going overseas. Six teams are scheduled for eight regular season games, two semi-finals and one championship from January 17 through March 17.

With just five days until the Club Selection process is set to begin, Unrivaled announced its six head coaches on Friday. They are not yet assigned to a specific team. (Publicly, at least!)
Weatherspoon is going to be a coach in/ the Unrivaled league after being fired less than six months ago by the Chicago Sky. She missed out on the playoffs at 18-22 and lasted just one season.
Reese was “heartbroken” by the organization’s decision to let Weatherspoon go. Fortunately, their time together is not over. They could soon be reunited as player/coach depending on assignments next week. There is a more-than-zero percent chance that they both end up on the same team with Unrivaled.
All of the new basketball league’s games will be played in Miami during its inaugural season. It is possible that Teresa Weatherspoon could once again serve as Angel Reese’s head coach over the next few days, weeks and months in Florida!
