You’re probably thinking that just because a celebrity is sitting front row at a sporting event — especially one in New York City or Los Angeles or Las Vegas — doesn’t mean they’re inherently a fan of that specific sport. And that’s certainly true. But walk with me on this one, as I’m beginning to think that Academy Award-winning actress Anne Hathway is legitimately a huge sports fan.
On Wednesday night, Anne Hathaway — who has long had a rep as a “theater kid” — was in attendance at the New York Knicks loss to the Chicago Bulls at Madison Square Garden and almost got herself crushed by OG Anunoby as he chased a loose ball.

Hathaway popping up at the Knicks game (on a Wednesday in November, no less) is just the latest sign that the 42-year-old Oscar winner is low key sports crazy. She’s been arm-in-arm with David Beckham at Inter Miami games. She played soccer as a kid and calls it “football.”
But the ultimate evidence of her true sports fandom is a viral clip from earlier this year in which she gleefully reacted to Arsenal forward Leonardo Trossard scoring a goal in a Premier League match. Her reaction, caught on camera in the midst of a junket interview for her film The Idea of You, is the type of visceral excitement that only genuine sports fans feel.

Earlier this month, Hathaway was in the news as it was reported she will be starring in Christopher Nolan’s next film, releasing July 2026, alongside Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Lupita Nyong’o. Hathaway previously starred in Nolan’s films The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar.
Hathaway’s public image, in general, as seemed to improve in recent years as people have slowly realized that, theater kid or not, she’s actually kind of awesome.
