Cubs’ first baseman Anthony Rizzo revealed on ESPN radio on Friday that he has chosen not to get vaccinated for COVID-19. The Cubs, who opened up Wrigley Field to 100% capacity on Friday, are one of eight MLB teams not to have reached the 85% threshold for fully vaccinated tier-one personnel.
Anthony Rizzo just told @thekapman and @tweetjhood on ESPN 1000 he’s one of the guys not vaccinated on the Cubs. Said it was a tough decision but chose not to.

Rizzo is the first Cubs player to publicly say that he has not been vaccinated. Rizzo is a cancer survivor having been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma when he was 18-years-old and said that he did consult with doctors about the decision not to receive the vaccine.
He didn't give details. Said in consultation with doctors. The major point here is not to miss him on ESPN 1000 every week! You can go to the ESPNChicago app and listen to podcast in a bit. (I know that's not the major point but I'm not going down the rabbit hole today!) https://t.co/1TLg3LSFsQ

He did admit that it was a tough decision to not get vaccinated, but wasn’t available for comment ahead of Chicago’s tilt with St. Louis on Friday afternoon.
It’s worth noting that the MLB has not mandated players to get the vaccine.
As you would expect, many people on Twitter immediately turned into doctors and lost their minds over the news of Rizzo choosing not to receive the vaccine. Some fans even suggested the Cubs trade him or suspend him.

Unreal @Cubs. You should trade him immediately. You are putting the city of Chicago in danger.

This is so crazy. In no rational world is the choice of whether or not to get vaccinated a "tough" decision. MLB should simply require it, just as they require their players to do all sorts of things. Insanity.

Always seemed like a dumb Fuck. Glad that’s confirmed

Burning my Rizzo jersey this afternoon. I will not support an individual who listens to conspiracy theories.
