App State is not going to tolerate an ugly incident at college football practice earlier this week. A leaked video from the early portion of fall camp shows a Mountaineers player swing a helmet at his teammate in a violent manner after a heated exchange during 11-on-11s.

Any punishment stemming from the unfortunate episode will be handled internally.

The source of the video is unclear. Timing of the video is unknown.

However, somehow, some way, an internal video from practice made its way out of the team facility. There is a mole in the locker room— whether that be a coach, a staffer or a player.

App State began fall camp on August 2 with the college football season video less than a month away. This seven-second clip was filmed no later than the sixth and hit social media on Tuesday night. It is not good.

A pass rusher wearing a black No. 12 jersey was battling with an offensive lineman wearing a white No. 73 jersey. UPDATE: The numbers in the video apparently do not reflect the numbers on the roster and the university is not willing to release names so their identities are unknown.

Nevertheless, No. 12 pushed No. 73 into the backfield and made contact with quarterback Joey Aguilar — wearing a red no-contact jersey — after he released the throw.

No. 73 tried to pull No. 12 off of the signal-caller by grabbing his shoulder. No. 12 snapped.

The defensive end grabbed the lineman’s facemask, yanked the helmet off of his head, and swung it back in a violent manner. It made contact with the offensive player, which knocked him back.

The violent exchange was extremely similar to when Myles Garrett swung a helmet at Mason Rudolph in 2019. Both occurrences are unacceptable. App State claims it will not stand for such behavior.

This behavior is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated within the App State football program.

However, no further details were provided about what actions the Mountaineers might choose to take. Fortunately, the helmet-swinging player in the video is not fifth-year redshirt junior Shawn Collins, he is supposed to be a big part of the defensive front this fall. That creates quite the predicament!
