“College Football 25”, set to release in July by EA Sports, is arguably the most-anticipated sports video game release ever. College football fans have waited over a decade for a new licensed college football video game, and the hype is growing seemingly every day.

It’s not just fans waiting anxiously for the game, as current college football players can’t wait to get their hands on a video game that will have their name, image, and likeness in it for the first time. In fact, football players at Arizona State went to great lengths to get their hands on an advance copy of the game, only to find out they had been hoodwinked.

Arizona State’s football social media team put out a video that featured head coach Kenny Dillingham offering copies of the game with a custom Arizona State cover to players who held a plank position the longest during a summer workout. But, the winners got an unwelcome surprise.

You’ve got to consider hitting the transfer portal for a gross violation of trust like that.  Those guys were out there fighting for a copy of the game! In all seriousness, it definitely did get his team to work a little bit harder in the summer conditioning session. And, I’m sure that they will be rewarded in some fashion.

But, the players shouldn’t have fallen for this! They already know that they will receive a free copy of the game due to opting into having their name, image, and likeness featured on the game. It just didn’t make any sense.

I can’t blame them for wanting to get their hands on “College Football 25” early, though. Everyone cannot wait to hop in and play a dynasty mode with their favorite school like we all used to do back when it was an annual release. And, so far, the game looks like it is going to be awesome based on the content put out.

But, it seems like those players will have to wait until July 19 (July 16 for the early release) like the rest of us.
