Benches cleared during a college basketball scuffle between TCU and Arizona State on Tuesday night. Pushing and shoving ensued. Bobby Hurley wound up on the ground.
The Sun Devils coach voiced his displeasure following the tumble, appearing to blame the Horned Frogs’ coaching staff for his fall.
TCU hosted its Big 12 rival in Fort Worth this week. The game was competitive throughout the first 25 minutes of action before the home team pulled away.
The Horned Frogs led 46-44 with 14:28 left in regulation. They’d use a 21-5 run to put the game out of reach.
TCU won the game 90-78 to improve to 18-10 on the year. It further bolstered their NCAA Tournament resume. Arizona State, meanwhile, fell to 14-14 in a forgettable season.
Their head coach’s frustration showed in the second half.

Right before the Horned Frogs made their second half run, play had to be stopped. Tempers flared as players emptied onto the court to start a scuffle near the Arizona State bench.
It started with a TCU player being trapped in the corner on an inbound. After a timeout, he took offense to being crowded by Sun Devils.
His reaction sparked pushing and shoving, which eventually resulted in Bobby Hurley ending up on the ground.
Believing he was pushed by a TCU coach, he stuck his finger in the assistant’s face before saying something to TCU coach Jamie Dixon.
Dixon laughed the accusation off. Hurley then continued taking his rage out on officials attempting to deescalate the situation.
Eventually, the court was cleared and play resumed. Hurley’s frustrations would persist as he watched Arizona State’s deficit balloon to double digits during its 10th conference loss in 15 tries.
Hurley on the hot seat?
The coach is operating under an extension that runs through June 30, 2026. Most believe the Sun Devils will allow him to finish out the season before finding his replacement.
Bobby Hurley took over at the university in 2015. He’s been at the helm for 11 seasons. During that time, he’s led the program to three NCAA Tournaments.
Each of those postseason trips ended during the opening weekend. He will be on his way to a fifth losing campaign in the last six years should his team’s Big 12 struggles continue.
He can likely see the writing on the wall. His run at Arizona State will probably end after another subpar season.
The scuffle in Texas highlighted frustrations being experienced by fans, coaches, and players amid another disappointing year.
