Lousiana quarterback Lunch Winfield and a police officer from the state of Arkansas shared a cordial handshake during the college football game in Jonesboro on Thursday night. It presented a stark contrast to an incident at Texas A&M over the weekend.
As it would turn out, student-athletes and state troopers can get along after all!
These two college football games exemplify how to act and how not to act as members of society. Shoutout to Louisiana and Arkansas for coming together for a common good.
A Texas State Trooper was dismissed from his post.
Everybody saw what happened in College Station on Saturday. South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor ran into the stadium tunnel after a lengthy touchdown just before halftime.
The Gamecocks were up big over the Aggies at the time.
As Harbor made his way back toward the field, a Texas state trooper started walking in the other direction— up the tunnel. He actively chose not to get out of the way of the players and made intentional contact. Harbor looked back at the officer confused. The officer pointed a finger in his face and yelled.
Texas A&M immediately relieved the state trooper of his game day assignment. The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Office of Inspector General opened an investigation into the matter.
It was a really bad look for the state trooper. Videos of his unacceptable behavior went extremely viral.
And to make matters worse, the Aggies came back to win so his initial presence at Kyle Field was also a jinx for the home team. But that is neither here nor there. We’re focused only on his actions.
Louisiana football players and Arkansas police officers exemplified proper decorum.
Louisiana-Lafayette (or whatever they want to be called these days) quarterback Lunch Winfield (whose government name is D’Wayne’) found the end zone during the first half against Arkansas State on Thursday night, much like Harbor. A state trooper from the Natural State was standing in the back.
Winfield ran over to him and shook his hand. They did not argue. It was not an altercation.

This is the way. The officer was visibly thrilled by the cordial interaction, with a smile on his face as he presumably texted all of his buddies in the group chat.
Take note, Texas State Trooper. You don’t have to be an A-hole!
