Ashton Jeanty is one of the four or five can’t-miss prospects in this year’s NFL Draft and will be drafted in the first round even though he is not at a “premium” position. The highly-touted running back is currently in Green Bay to hear his name called but he is not having very much fun while there.
He is the latest prospect to lament the league’s decision to hold the biggest offseason event in sports at such a mundane location.
Jeanty, the runner up for the Heisman Trophy, is arguably the best running back in college football history. His 2,601-yard season may never be matched. His 29 rushing touchdowns singlehandedly out-scored an entire team that was ranked inside the preseason top-10. That’s insane.
Even though NFL teams do not typically use a top-10 pick (or even a first round pick) on a running back in the modern era, Ashton Jeanty will not fall to Day 2. He may not fall out of the top 5. We’ll see.
There is a lot of smoke about Jeanty and the Chicago Bears. Smoke does not always lead to fire but the 21-year-old would be a great fit with the organization. For a lot of different reasons! Perhaps most importantly, he does not like Green Bay. There is not much to do there.
For someone who played his entire college football career in Boise, Idaho to say that Green Bay is boring says just about everything that needs to be to said. It is not a place he wants to live.
There has been a lot of chatter about the NFL Draft location. People cannot comprehend why it is in Green Bay. Cam Ward cannot wait to leave. Ashton Jeanty is in the same boat.
