The Atlanta Falcons updated their profile picture on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday, September 25, with a new red logo that got instantly called out for being reminiscent of imagery used by Germany under Adolf Hitler in the 1930s and 1940s.

Most of the viral reactions on X, formerly Twitter, have been calling out the Falcons for the bizarre logo choice, with one of the most viral responses, racking up over 100,000 likes, saying “This would go crazy on 1940s German Twitter.”

“This looks like something from Germany in 1942,” read one of the top replies to the Falcons’ tweet.

“What in the 1940s Germany is this?” read another confused reply.

“This looks like the symbol for a flag in a Dystopian Cyberpunk Video game where the Nazis won WW2,” one tweet perfectly summarized.

In addition to Nazi imagery, the new Falcons logo has also been compared to the flag of Albania, a Balkan nation in Southeast Europe with a population of about 2.5 million.

The Falcons red logo comes from the popular throwback jerseys they’ve been wearing in recent seasons and will wear thrice this year, beginning on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

As you can see in the below photo, however, the logo has been tweaked and further minimalized — last year’s logo had a white trim around the falcon — resulting in the seemingly Nazi party aesthetic. The Falcons will also be wearing their red helmet throwback uniforms against the Tampa Bay Bucs on October 3 and the New York Giants on December 22.

The Falcons have begun their first season with Kirk Cousins as their quarterback with a 1-2 record, as they beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2 and lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 and Week 3, respectively. Cousins and the Falcons will look to get their record back up to .500 in Week 4 when they host their NFC South divisional rivals, the New Orleans Saints.
