The 11th-ranked Auburn Tigers men’s basketball team had its flight to Houston grounded on Friday night after a fight broke out between senior forward Chad Baker-Mazara and brothers Drake and Dylan Cardwell.

College hoops reporter Connor Noonan states that “soon after the Auburn men’s basketball team’s flight took off, a physical altercation took place between Chad Baker-Mazara and the Cardwell brothers (Drake and Dylan).”

Noonan reports that the players had to be restrained the flight quickly turned around and landed back in Auburn.

Field of 68 reporter Jeff Goodman states that the team was about 45 minutes into the flight before turning around. The Tigers will now fly to Houston tomorrow before taking on the fourth-ranked Cougars at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

Baker-Mazara began his career at Duquesne before transferring to San Diego State and then Northwest Florida State College where he was a JUCO standout.

He made the move to Auburn for the 2023-24 season and ranked third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.0 points per game. He also finished third in rebounding with 3.7 per game.

Dylan Cardwell is a 6-foot-11 redshirt senior who was a stalwart on the defensive end a year ago. While his brother, Drake, is a redshirt freshman guard who did not play last season.

Both Baker-Mazare and Dylan Cardwell are starters for Bruce Pearl’s squad. Drake Cardwell did not appear in a season-opening blowout victory over Vermont to start the season.

Auburn did not offer a statement on the situation at the time of writing. Stay tuned to BroBible for more information on this story as it becomes available.
