Hugh Freeze Prioritizes Ugly Golf Swing Over Recruiting While Getting Stuffed In Locker By Alabama

Hugh Freeze is enjoying his third offseason at Auburn on the golf course. Tiger fans would prefer he spend more time on the recruiting trail.

The head coach is under fire for a lack of recruiting success this summer. His latest swing and miss with an in-state target didn’t do much to ease concerns.

The coach previously made waves for his prowess at a Pro-Am in May, as well as for his painfully awkward form at the tee box. He’s spent the weeks that followed honing that craft.

Freeze has spent a large part of June on the links. In fact, it’s been reported that he’d logged 10 rounds in the USGA’s GHIN database across the first 20 days of the month.

According to AL.com, he’d exceeded the number of public rounds the system displays, meaning he’s played more than 20 rounds this calendar year. Most have likely come of late with spring practice now wrapped up.

Offseason golf is typically fine. A college football coach is seemingly always on the clock. Enjoying downtime when possible is a necessity.

This may not have been the best time for Freeze given the current state of recruiting.

The Crimson Tide have landed 12 new commitments since the start of June. They’re headlined by a pair of five-star talents, one of which is the top player in the Yellowhammer State.

Wide receiver Cederian Morgan made his pledge to Alabama on June 2nd, less than three weeks after taking an official visit to Auburn.

The Tigers, meanwhile, are struggling to secure top-ranked talent. Their current 2026 class ranks 89th in the nation by 247 Sports. They’ve watched three of their most highly rated prospects flip to Florida State, Georgia, and Kentucky, respectively, over the last two weeks.

All the while, Hugh Freeze continues to perfect his golf game. The Auburn faithful isn’t happy about it!
