Auburn was very proud to announce “the highest-rated quarterback room” in the history of its college football program on Saturday morning. The transfer of Walker White forced the Tigers to awkwardly delete their post just a few hours after it went live.
The internet never forgets!
To understand this hilarious sequence of events, one must first have knowledge of Auburn’s recent recruiting wins. White, a four-star prospect in the recruiting Class of 2024, committed to play for Hugh Freeze on the Plains over Clemson and Ole Miss last December. He attempted only five passes during one game appearance as a freshman.
Not long after the regular season came to a close, two quarterbacks decided to leave. Holden Geriner was the first. Hank Brown hit the transfer portal after a failed attempt to solicit NIL money from boosters. Payton Thorne is out of eligibility.
The Tigers had four quarterbacks during the season. White was the only one left.
However, Auburn landed a very expensive commitment from five-star (depending on the website) reecruit Deuce Knight during the Early Signing Period. He and White made two.
And then former five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold announced his decision to transfer-in from Oklahoma on Saturday morning. He, Knight and White made three.
The Tigers posted a graphic to social media to celebrate the announcement. It boasted “the highest rated quarterback room in Auburn history” and referred to the “star ratings” of their three signal-callers. Arnold and Knight were listed as five-stars, White was listed as a four-star.

The post went live at 1:46 p.m. CT. It was announced less than two hours later that Walker White will enter the transfer portal.

Auburn has since deleted its post.

To make things even more awkward, college football fans saw Jackson Arnold play for the Sooners. He might’ve been ranked a five-star recruit before but he was pretty awful in Norman so his previous rating is irrelevant. Deuce Knight is also considered a four-star recruit by most of the major recruiting websites.
Not only was the initial graphic a bit of a stretch, it has since been removed. Oops!
