Ella Langley is the biggest female artist in country music right now but Avery Anna out-sang her on her own song during a surprise performance with Riley Green. That is remarkably hard to do considering the meteoric rise of Langley over the last 18/24 months.
And yet, it happened!
Langley, known best for her no-nonsense attitude and relatable songwriting, has a voice that can cut through all of the formulaic, Pro Tools-sweetened country music that plays on the radio. She is one of those artists who you can immediately recognize as soon as she opens her mouth. She does not sound like anybody else in the industry and her mystifying persona adds to the allure.
I was first introduced to Ella Langley at a Sony Music showcase in 2023 and I was hooked. I am a big fan.
‘You Look Like You Love Me’ is the 26-year-old’s biggest hit. It features Riley Green. Green also features Langley on his song ‘Don’t Mind If I Do.’ They sound great together!
However, I recently stumbled on a performance of the same song from the CMT Awards in Texas that sounds even better. Langley was not available so Anna tagged in to sing the duet alongside Green.
Avery Anna, who very recently turned 21, is the next big female artist to watch out of Nashville.
Although her songs primarily cater to a female audience aged 13-30, she is already one of my favorite vocalists in Music City. She has the stage presence down and she is only going to grow as an artist and as a songwriter as she gets older.
In my opinion, Anna and Green’s performance of ‘Don’t Mind If I Do’ is much better than Langley and Green. You be the judge:
This is not to discredit Ella Langley! Rather, it is to praise Avery Anna.
Both artists have their own distinct sound but, on this specific song, I truly think the latter is better than the former. If you got this far in the article, please shoot me a message.
