Avery Anna is the most unsuspecting artist in country music right now. She recently started performing a beautifully haunting cover of ‘No More Tears‘ by Ozzy Osbourne that will make your spine tingle.
You’ll never see it coming!
Anna is primarly labeled as a country music singer. However, her distinctive sound combines different elements of acoustic pop with a touch of twang and a lot of rock and roll.
Who is Avery Anna?
If you are not yet familiar with Avery Anna, aka Lil Debbie, it is my honor to introduce you. She is one of my favorite artists in Nashville right now even though I do not necessarily fit her target demographic.
Anna first burst onto the scene during the pandemic while singing in her bathtub. Her cover of ‘Say Something’ by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera exploded on TikTok.
The acoustics were unmatched.
That was five years ago.
Anna moved to Music City in 2021, signed a record deal with Warner in 2022 and made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry not too long thereafter. And now she is part of the Opry ‘NextStage’ Class of 2025!
Donna Fargo even introduced her before she sang Fargo’s song in the Circle just a few months ago. That’s pretty cool.
Needless to say, Anna can do “country.” In fact, I am of the opinion that she out-sang Ella Langley on her own song during a surprise duet with Riley Green at the CMT Awards. She also performed a folky duet of ‘Turned Into Missing You’ with Max McNown that is way better than the original.
But with that being said — I don’t classify Avery Anna as “country” or “folk.”
Her original songs blend too many genres to put her in box. Take ‘It’s Just Raining,’ for example.
‘Make it Look Easy’ also feels more pop-rock than country.
You get the idea. Avery Anna’s smoky sweet tone cannot be defined. Her songs are sincere and vulnerable. She displays impressive range with the ability to seamlessly hop around different genres.
Ozzy Osbourne would be proud.
Every single one of Anna’s shows is different. Yes, she plays her biggest hits, but she always sneaks in a cover you might not expect. ‘Brain Stew’ by Green Day is one.
‘No More Tears’ by Ozzy Osbourne is the other. Avery Anna does the late legend extremely proud.
Someone said that she looks like she is prepared to rock out at 5:00 and churn butter at 6:00, which made me laugh. You would never know she can wail based only on her unsuspecting appearance.
The little blonde girl dressed in a lace bow can really shred.
This is only just the beginning for Avery Anna. Her career arc is still on the way up. Get on board now!
