Ridiculous pitch counts aren’t exactly anything new in the game of softball, where the underhand throwing style isn’t as taxing on the arm as it would be in baseball. However, Baylor Bears sophomore pitcher Cambree Creager took things to a new level on Thursday.
Creager threw a program-record 250 pitches over 15 innings against the Houston Cougars. To make matters worse, the Bears lost 3-2, and Creager is officially given the loss in the box score as she pitched every inning for the Bears!

Cambree Creager Sets New Baylor And Modern Era Record For Pitches Thrown
Creager absolutely destroyed the previous program record of 185 pitches, and in a just world, she’d be allowed to go and hit each one of her teammates over the head with a giant mallet, Gallagher style.
The craziest part of it all is that Creager didn’t even sniff the NCAA record. That feat still belongs to Kelly Brookhart, who threw 390 pitches for Creighton in a win over Utah in 1991. Opposing pitcher Janet Womack threw 320 pitches in the same game.
But Creager’s 250 pitches is considered a record under the modern NCAA rules of the game.
Creager allowed 10 hits and five walks in addition to striking out seven over the course of the 15-inning marathon. Meanwhile, Baylor left 17 runners on base in the loss, including a pair in the bottom of the 15th inning.
“We didn’t really want to go that long with her because we haven’t seen her do that,” Baylor coach Glenn Moore said of the performance. “She certainly broke some barriers down in her own mind and proved to us that down the road, if we need that, she can put up a Whitney Canion/Cristen Vitek performance. You don’t see this type of performance from pitchers anymore at all.
” Anything over 100 is really a lot is taxing on the arm. But she wanted to ball, and when you have a kid that’s not hurting and wants the ball, I don’t think you take it away from them.”
That’s all fine and good. But the least the Bears could’ve done is find a way to get Creager a win.
