It seems like Ben Simmons is going to be one of the biggest cases of “what-if” in all of sports history. The former Philadelphia 76ers star was selected with the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, and was deemed as the next big thing.

He had his flashes of greatness in the city of brotherly love, but it never fully came together for Simmons. He never learned a jump shot that was even the level of a decent junior varsity player, to be honest. And, frankly, mental toughness was always a big issue.

The mental health issue reared its ugly head in dramatic fashion in the 2021 playoffs, when he infamously refused to dunk the basketball in a crucial moment in game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Atlanta Hawks.

Simmons would never play for the 76ers again, and was traded to the Brookyln Nets for James Harden last year. but, he never played for the team last season, and has only played 42 games in Brooklyn as he has been having he worst season of his career, averaging just 7 points a game.

Simmons hasn’t played since February 15th, with a mysterious injury, and some questioned whether Ben Simmons would ever play another game in the NBA, as it never appeared he truly loved basketball.

And now, his season is almost certainly over, and his career prospects are more bleak than ever after it was revealed he has a pinched nerve in his back.

Naturally, NBA fans are sick of Simmons.

In the meantime, we can all keep laughing at the Brooklyn Nets.
