Beyoncé was the highlight of both NFL games on Christmas Day. The Chiefs blew out the Steelers and the Ravens blew out the Texans so Sasha Fierce stole the show with her incredible halftime show in Houston on Netflix.
However, she directly contradicted the league’s recent crackdown on gun-like celebrations. It was an extremely ironic gesture considering what happened just a few hours prior.
At its core, the NFL’s attempt to minimize the amount of phantom weapons from the sport is a good thing. Roger Goodell and his group of advisors are trying to avoid the promotion of violence. Perhaps the youth will be less inspired to grow up and commit a crime if their favorite players aren’t shooting finger guns or unloading an imaginary clip. I don’t know.
Regardless of the reason, and whether it is successful, the NFL’s crackdown has resulted in a number of ridiculous penalties. Josh Downs picked up a 15-yard flag for signaling a first down earlier this year. Falcons head coach Raheem Morris tried to claim that his star wide receiver was shooting a t-shirt cannon after he brandished a fake shotgun. Xavier Worthy was flagged 15 yards for mimicking the Grinch and pretending to show a glock in his waistband on Wednesday.
Just a few hours later, Beyoncé took the house down with her incredible halftime performance of Cowboy Carter alongside Post Malone, Shaboozey, Tanner Adell and the Texas Southern Ocean of Soul, among other special guests. It was much better than a lot of Super Bowls in recent years.
Even though Queen B brought the entire world to its feet, she would’ve received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for firing finger guns. It was in direct contradiction to the NFL’s crackdown on gun-like celebrations.

And to conclude the show, Beyoncé fired a single finger pistol to unveil a big ‘BANG’ banner. She held the finger gun in the air for an extended period of time.

Queen Bey's tone-deaf finger gun display at Netflix's Christmas game highlights celebrity privilege, while NFL players get fined for basic touchdown celebrations.

Where was the flag???? The NFL would’ve hit Beyoncé with a heavy fine for her gun-like gestures if she was a player. The 15-yard penalty should be assessed on the Super Bowl halftime show in February.
