After a disappointing yet predictable end to their 2023 season, the Dallas Cowboys responded by having arguably the most underwhelming offseason in the entire National Football League.

Since the start of free agency, the Cowboys have signed Eric Kendricks, Trent Sieg, Jourdan Lewis, C.J. Goodwin, Rico Dowdle, and Chuma Edoga, while losing Tony Pollard, Tyron Smith, Dorance Armstrong Jr., Tyler Biadasz, Neville Gallimore, and Johnathan Hankins.

Not exactly the type of roster moves that will get the fanbase fired up, to say the least.

Unless the Cowboys are able to majorly defy expectations next year, odds are that Mike McCarthy is going to be fired, leaving the iconic NFL franchise in need of a new head coach.

While New England Patriots legend Bill Belichick has long been thought to be a contender for the job, a new report from Spanish outlet Marca — usually known for being plugged into the *other* kind of football — suggests that University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders could also be in the running.

“Deion Sanders is testing his talents as a head coach with the Colorado Buffaloes. For many, there is no point of comparison between one and the other, even so, both could be on the shortlist for one of the most desired positions in the league, that of the helmsman of the Dallas Cowboys,” Marca reports.

“The numbers don’t help McCarthy, and Jones isn’t known for his patience. The search for the new Cowboys head coach is about to begin, and Belichick could face unexpected competition from Coach Prime for the job.”

Sanders coaching the Cowboys certainly makes sense, and not only because he played there and has a relationship with Jerry Jones. What Sanders has above all other candidates is ultimately the thing that Jones wants most: he’s an entertainer, a showman.

Heading into the 2024 season, the Cowboys are barely cracking the top 10 betting favorites — they’re tied for 8th with the Houston Texans with odds of +1600 — to win next year’s Super Bowl.

Ahead of the Cowboys are the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, and Buffalo Bills.
