Even when Bill Belichick And The New England Patriots parted ways last year, few thought that the all-time great would not get hired by another job and instead be an unemployed coach for the 2024 NFL Season. That’s exactly what has happened, though, as Belichick will be a member of the media this year with a potential return to football next year.

Part of his media schedule this fall seems to be regular appearances on The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN. On Wednesday, Belichick was back on the show and spoke about what he’s had time to do football-wise that maybe he didn’t have much time for when he was coaching in the league.

The six-time Super Bowl Champion as a head coach was in charge in New England from 2000-2023 and oversaw the most dominant two decades of football that any franchise has ever seen with Tom Brady as his quarterback. Things fell apart for Belichick in New England after Brady moved on to Tampa Bay, as the team made just one playoff appearance in four seasons. But, Belichick is still a universally respected coach, and many were stunned when, most notably, the Falcons spurned him for Raheem Morris in their coaching search.

Belichick spoke on the Pat McAfee Show about how he has more time to focus on the schemes all 32 teams are running compared to now.

That’s something that could really help him in a potential comeback to coaching. I think even Bill Belichick will admit that things got a little stale schematically in the last few years for the Patriots. Giving himself time to really evaluate what is and isn’t working leaguewide is a huge advantage compared to current coaches that have to focus so much on their own team and their weekly opponents.

Bill Belichick will routinely appear on ESPN’s ManningCast and CW’s Inside the NFL this fall.
