Bill Simmons has had enough of a certain “feature” that most streaming services force on viewers after they watch a show or movie. And he is far from alone with his complaint.
Simmons aired his complaint following an episode of The Rewatchables podcast in which he just finished watching the 1983 film Eddie and the Cruisers.
“I’d like to do this as a public service to all the streamers watching right now – including Netflix,” he complained. By the way, The Rewatchables actually airs on Netflix, as do others he is involved in, like The Bill Simmons Podcast and The Big Picture.
“So this movie’s ending, right? Surprise ending with Eddie in the window and he’s got the beard, and the closing credits come on.
“Amazon’s counting me down in the bottom right corner because it’s about to send me to the next thing. And now I really want to hear the ending, and you have to grab your phone or your remote, frantically try to stop it so they don’t send me to like f—— Harry Potter Season 7, or whatever they’re gonna send me to.”
“And it’s like, ‘F— off!'” he continued on his rant. “Let me enjoy the end of a movie for 20 seconds before you’re sending me to the next thing. So you can bill your fake streaming hours to me, when all I did is leave my TV on and you pretended I watched something else. F— you.”
Almost everyone agreed with Bill Simmons’ take
Craig Horlbeck, the producer of The Rewatchables, added, “Stop telling us you actually care about the movie industry and you won’t let us see closing credits for anything.”
“I will die beside Bill on this hill,” a commenter on Instagram wrote (and got 771 likes).
“THIS is how you need to use your voice, Bill. You’re a public figure, flex on them!” read another comment.
“Honestly might be Bill’s best take ever,” a different viewer agreed.
Another person also brought up a great point about this “feature.”
“And you hit the wrong button and you have to start over and fast forward to the end,” they wrote, adding an angry face emoji.
