In recent years, the cover athlete for the Madden NFL video game has become a highly anticipated announcement.

Fans eagerly await the unveiling of the player who will grace the cover, as it often signifies recognition of success in the football world. Now, rumors are swirling that Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen will be the cover athlete for Madden NFL 24, potentially making history for the franchise.

Josh Allen has undoubtedly made a name for himself in the NFL. Over his first five seasons, he has led the Bills to new heights, establishing them as a force to be reckoned with in the league.

According to a rumor circulating on Buffalo Fanatics, a popular Bills fansite, Allen is “likely” to be featured on the cover of Madden NFL 24. If this speculation holds true, Allen will become the first player in Buffalo Bills history to receive this honor.

While Allen would be the first Bills player to grace the Madden cover, he would join a prestigious group of quarterbacks who have recently held the coveted spot. In four of the past six years, quarterbacks have been chosen as the cover athletes, with Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes each appearing twice, including a shared cover for Madden NFL 22.

However, Madden NFL 23 took a different approach, opting to pay tribute to the late John Madden, the game’s namesake, after his passing in December 2021. As a result, there was no specific cover athlete for that edition.

One topic that inevitably arises when discussing the Madden cover is the infamous “Madden Curse.” Throughout the history of the franchise, many cover athletes have experienced setbacks, such as injuries or performance declines, in the subsequent season. However, in recent years, the curse has seemingly lost its grip.

Notably, Patrick Mahomes appeared on the cover for Madden NFL 20 and went on to win Super Bowl LIV with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Should Allen secure the Madden NFL 24 cover, he will undoubtedly be hoping to avoid any curse-related misfortunes and instead replicate the success of recent cover athletes.

It was also recently reported that EA Sports are finally adding a long-awaited feature to Madden 24, cross-play will introduced to allow gamers to compete against each other across different platforms.

As anticipation mounts for the release of Madden 24, fans will still have to wait for the confirmation of Josh Allen as the cover athlete. While rumors continue to circulate, it remains to be seen if this speculation holds true.

Regardless, Allen’s rise to prominence in the NFL has firmly established him as a formidable quarterback, and his potential selection for the Madden cover would only further solidify his place among the league’s elite.
