News broke late last night that the Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Padres had reached a deal that would send Rays slugger Tommy Pham to the Padres for outfielder Hunter Renfroe and 2B prospect Xavier Edwards who has been playing at Fort Wayne’s Single-A TinCaps in the Midwest League.
I’m a Tampa Bay Rays fan. There are TENS OF US out there, I swear. Tommy Pham was arguably our best offensive piece and he was a cultural figure as well within the team. He set a team record it the 2019 season by safely reaching base 40 GAMES IN A ROW. The Rays making the playoffs and then shipping away a huge piece of their offense seems insane to me and I’m apparently not alone in that reaction.
Blake Snell won the 2018 AL Cy Young Award while pitching for the Tampa Bay Rays. He is THE LEADER of the Tampa Bay Rays at the moment. He was streaming live on Twitch when he got news of the Tommy Pham trade and his reaction was priceless.
According to Hot Clicks, Blake Snell went on to discuss the trade more but those clips were scrubbed from his Twitch and the Internet but this clip of his very candid reaction about trading the Rays’ most product offensive weapon for a prospect is perfect.

I woke up at 6am this morning to at least 25 texts on the group text hotline about this trade and everyone’s reaction seems to mirror Blake Snell’s. The team traded away one of the key pieces that got them to the playoffs for a less productive major leaguer and a prospect that may or may not ever produce. I can’t wait for the Rays to eventually move to Mexico City so I can stop caring about them so much.
