Montana head football coach Bobby Hauck will not mince his words when it comes to Sacramento State president Dr. Luke Wood. He called him a “kind of a clown.”
His comments were in direct response to multiple shots at his program.
The Grizzlies are currently ranked No. 4 on the FCS level of college football. They will face the Hornets on Saturday.
Dr. Luke Wood is “kind of a clown.”
Wood assumed office as the ninth president of California State University, Sacramento in May 2023 at the age of 41. He has caused quite the stir over the last two years.
His previously stated desire to “eliminate whiteness” from society sparked widespread backlash over the summer. That was perhaps his most controversial stance.
However, other sharp comments regarding FCS football will likely be the lasting impression of Wood’s tenure at the university. They came back to bite him. Hard.
Wood had been extremely vocal about his desire to move Sacramento State to the FBS over the last 18/24 months. He spoke like it was a done deal. The university supposedly raised more than $50 million in NIL money. It even tried to build a brand-new stadium.
Wood even referred to the FCS as “JV football” along the way, which ruffled a lot of feathers across the league.
Well, his quip completely backfired when the FBS Oversight Committee rejected the Hornets’ bid. Awkward!
If that was not fodder enough, Wood recently referred to historic FCS powerhouse Montana as the “Pandas” instead of the “Grizzlies” on an ESPN broadcast.
“We’re looking forward to playing the Montana Pandas,” he joked. “Sorry. Montana Grizzlies. Grizzlies. I think that’s their name, right? They haven’t played anybody this season.”
He also guaranteed a win by the Hornets.
“I feel bad for their fans that have to experience a loss like that on the road, but we’ll see,” Wood said.
Shots fired!
Bobby Hauck did not hold back.
When asked about Wood’s comments, Montana head football coach Bobby Hauck not-so rhetorically referred to him as “kind of a clown.” He also made reference to a violent brawl at Sac State last weekend.
The incident took place after the football game.

Lil Yachty was supposed to perform a postgame concert and still wanted to go on — even after the fight. Dr. Luke Wood made the final decision to call it off.
Hauck suggested that Wood should worry less about “clowning” Montana football and more about the “riot that happened in their stadium after the game.” Mic drop.
