It’s hard to blame any college football coach who tries to curry favor with the team’s supporters by describing them as the best fans in the country. However, Boise State’s Spencer Danielson severely undermined his argument by making that case while trying to convince them to stay in the stands for an entire game.
College football games tend to be the main attraction on campus when a team is playing at home, and you can usually get a pretty good read on the state of a program by turning your attention to the crowd that’s assembled by the time the contest gets underway.
It goes without saying that you want to see every seat filled with the help of a student section that’s packed with raucous undergrads, and you ideally want to be treated to a similar scene by the time the game wraps up.
However, that’s easier said than done, and there are plenty of fans who will decide to do something else with their day by leaving the stadium early if things aren’t going their way.
Boise State is far from the only team that’s had to grapple with that issue, but the Broncos are doing everything in their power to prevent it from becoming a recurring one.
Boise State’s coach and athletic director went out of their way to ask fans to stop leaving games early
Boise State headed into the current season ranked at #25, but things took a very unfortunate turn when they opened up the year on the road against a USF team that earned an upset with a 34-7 rout.
The Broncos are currently sitting at 4-2 after bouncing back from a loss to Notre Dame with a win over New Mexico at home last weekend, a 45-25 conference victory that required them to crawl out of the 14-7 hole they found themself in when halftime rolled around.
When the third quarter got underway, there had been a notable exodus of fans who declined to stick around to witness the eventual comeback that extended the team’s winning streak at Albertsons Stadium to 15 games.
On Monday, Boise State athletic director sent out a string of tweets where he begged the people planning to attend Saturday’s showdown with UNLV to stick around for the entire game, and he wasn’t the only person affiliated with the program who went the same route.
Every down. Every drive. Every single play. We don’t coast on reputation. We earn it. With voice. With volume. With energy that never quits. We make it hard to communicate. Hard to think. Hard to win here on this sacred ground. This Saturday, we rise. We reclaim the noise.😈🧵⬇️

According to Idaho News, head coach Spencer Danielson issued a similar plea while expressing his displeasure with the scene in the second half against New Mexico, saying:
“Bronco Nation, I believe without question we have the best fanbase in the country. But it’s hard coming out at half when you look up and you see a lot of the fans gone, that’s hard. It’s hard for our team.”
Boise State will be hoping to hand the 6-0 Rebels their first loss of the season, and the oddsmakers seem to think they’ll be able to do exactly that in decisive fashion when you consider they’re currently listed as 11.5-point favorites.
