Former ESPN personality Bomani Jones woke up angry at Josh Allen and his fans following their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional round game, as he fired off over a dozen tweets about the Bills QB before 9:30 in the morning on Monday.
According to Bomani, NFL fans apparently “want” success for Josh Allen in a way they apparently don’t for a quarterback like Lamar Jackson.
“I just saw Rex Ryan say about Josh Allen: “Eventually, he’s gonna land the hook.’ This is where it’s good to be…Josh Allen,” Jones tweeted. “When you’re Josh Allen, you eventually will. When you’re not, and you haven’t so far, it’s about how you *have* to. That tricky benefit of the doubt.”
One of Jones’ biggest talking points is how much people “want it” for Allen — i.e. want to see him succeed — which is a strange thing to get angry about given that NFL fans seem to have a similar affection for the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow. Just look at how fans and the media alike took to and rooted for CJ Stroud this season, too.
Still, he tweeted some variation of “want it for Josh Allen” three times, and, without putting his finger on exactly what he’s trying to say, said it’s the “damnedest” thing that people root for Allen as they do.
“It’s been the same for six years. unlike any quarterback I’ve ever seen, people WANT IT for Josh Allen so bad. It’s the damnedest thing,” he said.
say what you're thinking, buddy. i've been pretty clear: people have wanted this for josh allen since he walked into the league. https://t.co/260eubnGCA

Jones then claimed that there won’t be a “cape to be found” — essentially, the same chorus of support that he believes Josh Allen is currently getting — if Jackson puts up the same performance in a loss next weekend to the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
there won't be a cape to be found if lamar averages 4.8 ypa in a loss next week. bet that. https://t.co/6yVmsQR8yq

and now, lamar has made as many afc championships games as *checks notes* josh allen.

Given that Jones said he doesn’t believe there will be any “capes out” for Lamar Jackson next Monday if he loses to Mahomes and the Chiefs, it’ll be interesting to see if he fires off upwards of a dozen tweets about the presumed MVP’s performance as well.
Unsurprisingly, Jones’ rant about Josh Allen ended with a plug for his YouTube show, as ESPN did not renew his contract back in 2023, which would perhaps help explain why he took such issue with how the network was using its airtime. Similarly, his HBO show Game Theory with Bomani Jones was also recently canceled.
