Former Tennessee football player Boo Carter has announced a commitment to Colorado. He will join Deion Sanders in Boulder next season.

That addition provides the Buffs with a proven talent on the defensive side of the football. The staff believes the pros outweigh the cons following his tumultuous exit from Knoxville.

Carter spent two seasons with his first program, earning significant playing time early in his career. The cornerback played in 13 games as a rookie to make the SEC’s all-freshman team.

The on-field success continued in Year 2. Unfortunately, things were chaotic away from the gridiron.

Boo Carter was a problem at Tennessee.

Ahead of his sophomore season, issues began to arise. After securing a new NIL deal with the Vols, it was reported that he began missing workouts and showing up late to team meetings.

The problems continued into the final month of the preseason. His mom did little to make the situation better.

In August, she ignited transfer rumors with speculation surrounding his status at Tennessee. Some believed he would be kicked off the team before season’s start. She was ready to leave.

Ultimately, Josh Heupel allowed Carter to stay on the team. The character concerns did not go away.

By November, he was no longer a member of the Tennessee football program. It was said that he’d been dismissed by the coaching staff. There were whispers of potential gang ties.

His mom shut the rumors down.

Let me clear some st up real fast! My son Boo Carter ain’t got st to do with st going on! He not affiliated with no Gang! So whoever running telling the school st get ya facts right! Far as somebody supposedly saying he can’t come back to the city to try some! Yall think I’m all talk ight! I’ll sit down for mine and majority know I will!

After an attempt to clear his name, the family looks ahead to the future. He has now found his next school.

Carter will continue his football career at Colorado.

The defender was on campus for a visit this weekend. He committed to the program soon thereafter.

Deion Sanders is ignoring the red flags in order to add the All-SEC performer. His talent is worth the risk of off-field drama.

Interestingly enough, it seems Colorado was the landing spot Boo Carter’s mom had hoped for all along. While previously trashing Tennessee, she went out of her way to praise Sanders and the Buffs.

The defensive back cited an injury in his transfer portal announcement as both he and his mother denied his rumored dismissal for bad behavior.

The Vols obviously have their side of the story, too.

Shareca Carter has since deleted her Facebook account, which will hopefully remove some of the negative attention that previously surrounded Colorado’s newest football star.

Should Carter prove to be a drama-free addition to the secondary, the narratives will end. If the issues persist, some “I told you so’s” will be directed towards Coach Prime.
