Boo Carter and his mom claim he was not kicked off of the college football team at Tennessee like Josh Huepel implied. They claim he chose to enter the transfer portal after an injury.
However, their tenure in Knoxville was not absent of drama so the truth likely falls somewhere in the middle of these two different accounts of what happened.
It is no longer uncommon for college football players to leave their team in the middle of the season. The circumstances surrounding this specific departure are mysterious.
Boo Carter will enter the college football transfer portal.
Carter, a former four-star prospect in the recruiting Class of 2024, chose to stay home and play for Tennessee. He made 63 total tackles and two sacks with three forced fumbles and an interception in 21 games for the Volunteers but his time with the program will most be remembered for the drama.
The defensive back stepped away from the Volunteers for a brief period of time in July after a myriad of off-field issues. Carter missed multiple team activities over the summer, which created a lot of concerns about his character and his willingness to work.
To make matters worse, there were even some rumors about gang ties. His mother shut them down.
“Let me clear some st up real fast! My son Boo Carter ain’t got st to do with st going on! He not affiliated with no Gang! So whoever running telling the school st get ya facts right! Far as somebody supposedly saying he can’t come back to the city to try some! Yall think I’m all talk ight! I’ll sit down for mine and majority know I will! Play P—- AND GET F—- RS!”
Shareca Carter, who goes by Momma Boo, is a very important character in this story. She often comments about her son on social media, which only adds fuel to the fire when things aren’t going well.
Momma Boo is no longer public on Facebook.
Boo Carter was reportedly dismissed from the Tennessee football program at some point in the last 7-10 days. He did not appear on the sideline on Saturday. Huepel said “there’s a standard that you have to meet to be in that locker room” when asked after the game about what happened.
Both Carter and his mom disputed that account of what happened. The player himself post on X to announce his entry into the transfer portal after an injury but nobody believed him.
His mom later posted on Facebook with definitive proof of her son’s injury as well as a screenshot of a text message conversation with a coach to try and disprove any potential behavioral concerns. She also made a scathing comment about the Volunteers.
“I’m burning everything organe. Not ever eating a orange again.”
That was on Sunday and Monday. Her Facebook profile is no longer available as of Wednesday morning. Momma Boo either deleted the account all together or went completely private. Her Instagram is private.
Maybe an agent told Ms. Carter it would be in the best interest of her son not to keep posting about him while he seeks a new opportunity. Perhaps she came to that conclusion on her own.
Either way, Boo Carter’s mom decided to bite her tongue moving forward and the account can no longer be found. Probably Definitely for the best.
