The Boston College basketball team was upset at home by Central Connecticut State on Tuesday to fall to 1-2 on the season. The Eagles paid their opponent to beat them on their own court.

Not many were on hand to see that surprising loss in person. No one showed up despite a cheap ticket and parking promotion.

Boston College has not been a good basketball team under head coach Earl Grant. They’ve posted three losing seasons in his four years at the helm headlined by a 12-19 campaign in 2024.

It does not appear improvement is on the horizon.

Boston College basketball lost a buy game.

The Eagles paid the Blue Devils to be a part of the 2025-26 campaign. It was a game the home team was expected to win.

Central Connecticut had other plans. It took the money and ran out of Chestnut Hill with a massive victory.

Boston College entered the contest as 21.5-point favorites. It quickly found itself in a dogfight. The Blue Devils erased an early 8-0 deficit to keep pace with its ACC foe. They trailed by four at the halftime break.

The Eagles led by as many as 10 in the second half, but a late surge lifted the road squad.

Central Connecticut outscored Boston College 25-14 over the final 13 minutes of play. It held the Eagles to just five points across the last 7:35 of regulation.

Still, the Blue Devils trailed by a point on their final possession. They sank the Eagles on a last-second layup.

The win was the program’s first over Boston College in eight tries.

No one showed up to witness history.

Empty seats littered the 8,600-person venue. An official attendance of 3,774 was reported, though the crowd seemed much smaller.

The school begged for support after seeing a 2,500-person turnout in last week’s home opener. It attempted to lure fans to the arena by hyping free parking and a $2 ticket promotion.

Neither would prove successful in packing the stands.

Central Connecticut won in thrilling fashion to earn a resume building win. It was paid to make program history.

The Eagles lost in an empty arena with a non-existent homecourt advantage. The paycheck added insult to injury.
