The Boston Red Sox have been a franchise since 1901, and have been one of the most iconic sports teams in the world, yet, some people still don’t know how to spell the team’s name. You’d think that after winning nine World Series titles and forever burying the Curse of the Bambino 15 years ago, that would change, but, nope, there are still people out there who don’t know how to use the Google machine to double-check their initial intuition.
That’s what happened at the White House yesterday, as someone — a poor intern, presumably — actually posted this phrase: “President Trump welcomes the 2018 World Series Champions The Boston Red Socks to the White House,” to promote the World Series champions to the Oval Office. Guys, what in the f*ck is happening with our country right now?
The typo has been updated to the proper spelling of the Boston Red Sox, but not before Steve Annear of the Boston Globe could take a screengrab of the error, which also showed up on the White House’s official YouTube channel; take a look.

People can go ahead and argue that the Red Sox were once known as the “Socks” in 1907, but it’s 2019, dudes, so whoever uses that argument is out of their damn minds. Considering President Donald Trump became famous for busting out the phrase “you’re fired” on the popular TV show The Apprentice, something tells me he’ll be saying something similar to the poor soul who made this mistake.
While the Boston Red Sox make their way to the White House today, they’ll actually be without their manager, Alex Cora, and a few other top players. Cora, who’s from Puerto Rico, is skipping the trip for political reasons, stating that he disagrees with President Trump’s handling of the hurricane relief in his native country. Given the mess in the White House right now, Cora’s probably not missing out on much.
