Boxer Chris Eubank Jr. got hit with a hefty fine for being less than a pound overweight. Ahead of his fight against Conor Benn, Eubank trashed his opponent for testing positive for a banned substance a year ago.
“I know what’s coming. I’ve prepared my whole life for these moments. I’ve put the time in. I’ve dedicated decades to this sport. I’ve done it all without cheating, without cutting any corners, and I’m proud of that. The mentality I have, the experience I have, and the fortitude and the will is what I will be using on the night to take out my adversary, Conor Benn.
Unfortunately for Eubank, he was unable to make weight on Friday after talking trash and was severely punished. According to The Ring magazine, Eubank was fined $ 500,000 for being 0.05 pounds over the 160-pound weight limit and could face additional fines if he weighs in over 170 pounds on Saturday.
‼️ Chris Eubank Jr weighed 160.2lbs on his first attempt at today’s official weigh-in for the Conor Benn fight, then weighed 160.05lbs on his second and final attempt.
💰 He will be fined $500,000, per the weight clause in the contract, and cannot exceed 170lbs at the same-day… pic.twitter.com/cp02yjl6zv
