The Texas Tech volleyball team picked up a transfer commitment from Gretchen Sigman on Monday afternoon. That news has sparked major speculation surrounding the future of the football team.

The Red Raiders will lose 2025 starting quarterback Behren Morton to the NFL Draft this offseason. They may have his replacement in their crosshairs.

Cincinnati passer Brendan Sorsby entered the transfer portal this week. That announcement came after a junior season in which he threw for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns.

His portal entry, however, comes with one caveat. He intends to keep his professional pursuits open.

Will Brendan Sorsby enter the NFL Draft?

The signal caller has crept up draft boards given his production over the last two seasons. With the Bearcats, he’s totaled 45 touchdown passes to just 12 interceptions.

His ability to avoid mistakes, combined with a 6-3, 235-pound frame, make him an intriguing prospect for pro teams.

Sorsby can hurt you as a passer and a runner. He’s scored 18 times on the ground with Cincinnati. His style of play should translate as the NFL trends towards more mobile quarterbacks.

Sorsby’s ceiling could be higher than many in what is expected to be a weak draft class. He was previously rated as the No. 7 player at his position in this year’s cycle by Mel Kiper, a standing that will only increase with others in front of him opting to return to college.

All of that goes to say that the quarterback has options. He is playing his cards close to the vest while determining where his next home will be.

Sorsby will get paid to play football… somewhere.

The NFL interest has been noted. His projections could continue climbing into the earlier rounds as the offseason progresses.

He could also choose to come back to school for his last season of eligibility in an attempt to better his outlook. That return will not be at Cincinnati.

By entering the portal, he’s opened up a negotiation process. He will be one of the more highly touted transfers on the market. He will expect to be paid as such.

Brendan Sorsby can leverage his NFL interest into an NIL payday.

A third-round pick will sign a contract estimated to be four years and worth between $6-6.5 million. That’s good for an annual salary of just at least $1 million.

If he can slide into second-round consideration, the price goes up.

Right now, he awaits his draft grade. He could stay in college if the price is right. In the meantime, he can also hear offers being lined up with the NCAA programs currently competing for his services.

One team might have a step up in the race for his pledge.

The Red Raiders volleyball team added Sigman to the fold on Monday, the same day Sorsby broke his transfer news. Could they be a package deal?

Texas Tech was believed to be a player in the quarterback’s recruitment alongside Indiana, a program he previously played for. This would seem a positive for the Red Raiders’ chances.

Money won’t be a deterrent for a program that’s been aggressive in its NIL outlook. The program’s general manager has already shown public interest.

For now, all things trend towards Texas Tech should Brendan Sorsby choose to play one more season of college football. The Red Raiders might have to open up the checkbook when the passer’s NFL Draft grade comes back.
