NFL fans who are not familiar with Brenden Schooler were shocked to see that the New England Patriots signed a third-string safety to a contract extension worth up to $10.5 million. However, they were quickly made aware of his greatness on special teams during his first game as a rich man.
The 27-year-old undrafted free agent made one of the best plays of the week that will not be discussed as much as it should.
Schooler, a California-native, accepted his only scholarship offer out of high school as an unranked recruit in the Class of 2016. He began his college career with four seasons at Oregon, playing on both sides of the ball, and later spent two years at Texas.

Bill Belichick caught wind of Schooler, who ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash at his Pro Day with a 6.71-second three-cone drill, and the Patriots signed him to a three-year contract shortly after the NFL Draft. New England added him to the active roster at the end of training camp to play mostly on special teams.
The decision paid off in a big way for both parties.
Brenden Schooler is an ace!
Schooler recorded 27 total tackles during his first two seasons in the league. An electric, out-of-nowhere blocked field goal against the Dolphis last season is the most famous play of his career.

It is now to the point where Brenden Schooler is unblockable as a gunner on kickoffs and punts. He might be the only special teamer in league history with a five-minute, single-season highlight tape. His ability to flip the field is truly unlike any other player in the NFL.
The Patriots wanted to ensure that they will have Schooler beyond this year so they signed him to a three-year contract extension last week. The deal is worth up to $10.5 million with $3.6 million guaranteed.
That was on Friday. He completely embarrassed the Houston Texans just two days later!
Schooler blew past a double team to make a clutch tackle for loss without being touched.

Needless to say, the New England Patriots are happy to every single penny. Brenden Schooler is worth it!
