The Hurricanes ran into a travel issue after beating the Kraken in Seattle on Saturday, and the team reportedly got a clutch assist from a random stranger after encountering another setback after trying to hit up McDonald’s after the game.

The Carolina Hurricanes kicked off a lengthy six-game road trip midway through October, and on Saturday night, they completed the second-to-last leg of that journey with a 4-1 win over the Seattle Kraken.

The Hurricanes were slated to hop on a flight to Vancouver after the contest to cap off the trip with a showdown with the Canucks on Monday, but they had to pivot when their plane encountered mechanical issues that forced them to hop on a bus for the approximately three-hour trek up to British Columbia’s most populous city.

According to SportsNet’s Dan Murphy, that also threw a hitch in the team’s postgame meal plan, as they weren’t able to take advantage of the food that would normally be waiting for them on the flight.

According to the string of tweets Murphy sent out on Monday, the team was able to take advantage of the McDonald’s in the vicinity of the spot where they assembled to meet the bus that picked them up in Everett, Washington to ferry them up to Vancouver.

Hurricanes defenseman Brent Burns took point (and racked up some serious points on the McDonald’s app in the process) by facilitating an order Murphy says was rumored to involve 100 cheeseburgers, but Carolina encountered its second major snag of the evening after discovering the restaurant had closed its doors and had a policy that dictated you needed to be in a vehicle to pick up food at the drive-thru.

Thankfully, Burns—who looks like someone you’d expect to be cast as “Murderous Hillbily #2” in a horror movie—managed to convince a “random driver” to let him hop into their car after approaching them in the dead of night, and the Canes were able to get their McDonald’s fix before heading across the border.

At least it all worked out in the end.
